Screen Print 2016 East Kilbride
Posted on February 24, 2017
During 2016 the decision was taken to invest in Screen Print capacity in our East Kilbride plant in Scotland. This allows us to provide a broader range of products for our existing and new customers. It involved a significant re-layout of the plant (two factories) and allowed us to upgrade our existing flexographic, digital, and die cut facilities to be in self-contained, environmentally controlled, secure areas.
Now that it is fully installed and operational, the screen print facility includes auto sheet fed screen print with UV and solvent drying oven for higher volume products, and more manual single sheet screen print machines for low volume, high mix products
Our in house screen exposure and wash facilities give us the flexibility and agility to meet customer needs. Further to this, we have the advanced capability to combine screen and digital print technologies to provide quick turnaround samples, as well as ultra-low volume high mix manufacturing runs. At the back end of the process we have laminating, backslitting, and traditional platen cutting, as well as state of the art CNC cutting technologies.
Having installed these capabilities within our existing quality systems and processes, we see great opportunities to add value for our customers. We are already working on the next stage of Screen Print process development with our Engineering, Research and Development and New Product Introduction Teams looking at a range of technology based options to help us improve these processes and service our customers better. When we add this to our existing portfolio of flexographic, digital, die cut and bobbin rewind capabilities, we are fast becoming a one stop shop for high end print and die cut requirements for our electronics, automotive, medical, and industrial customers.

Annual CCL Technical Meeting
Posted on December 16, 2016
On October 20th and 21st our CCL site hosted the annual CCL Technical Meeting. There were a total of 150 CCL Technical Representatives from 34 countries representing every country that CCL operators in. The furthest travelled guest was Aldo Gonzalez, from Santiago Chile, who had travelled over 19000 km.
The meeting was over two days with the first focussed on group sessions covering the main product groups. Over 40 different sessions were held across 4 meeting rooms. There was lively debate and brainstorming and lots of good open discussion. After an excellent Chinese dinner on a nearby lakeside restaurant the group convened again on the Friday morning for a full team meeting introduced by our Chairman and CEO, Geoff Martin. Geoff stressed the importance of “Invention” for our continued growth and success. Technical presentations were then delivered by the Suzhou Design Electronics team and our new colleagues from the Checkpoint acquisition.
In the afternoon line tours were conducted in two different buildings 20km apart. The tour was conducted with military precision with 10 guides each leading a small group to 10 different areas where a dedicated presenter delivered a detailed technical description. The tour was a huge success thanks to the meticulous planning and preparation.
After the tours we returned to the hotel for the supplier sponsored show. 25 different suppliers came armed with display samples and explanatory materials showing the latest technology.
The event was wrapped up in the evening with a gala dinner against a backdrop of spectacular Chinese traditional entertainment.
CCL Design and CeeD - Innovation as a route to Market and Company Growth
Posted on September 29, 2016
CCL Design Electronics East Kilbride recently held its first marketing event in partnership with the CeeD Group. The event was arranged to allow fellow CeeD members to gain exposure to the strengths and capabilities of our site and global locations. The Innovation clinic was hosted in the new events and display facility, located in the EK No4 building. It also allowed our local team to network with the various organisations who attended, in the hope of developing new business partnerships.
The event itself included an overview of the development of our organisation through its various stages to the current CCL holding. Derek Cumming introduced and highlighted how innovation and focus, was key in developing our customer base and global footprint. The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session, a tour of both buildings and a light lunch.
"How refreshing to meet a company that has succeeded and captured a share in a worldwide market and is still actively "in the game".
"It was an excellent presentation and showed that back in the day, if you had courage and took risks, with hard work it can pay off."
"The CCL story should be told time and time again - we need more risk takers like them."
Initial feedback received from the 30 plus attendees, the CeeD Group Directors and the CCL Team was very positive and indicated that such events will be a great tool in increasing brand awareness and knowledge or our capabilities.
A resounding success which will be the first of many such networking events, aimed at demonstrating and enhancing our organisations reputation.
